Travel insurance is not mandatory, but we highly recommend it for your peace of mind. A good policy can cover:
It’s a small step that can make a big difference—especially when exploring natural destinations.
Nights on the volcano can be chilly, so layer up with warm clothing. Sturdy hiking shoes are a must for the rocky trail, and you’ll be glad to have a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for sunrise. Don’t forget a camera for those once‑in‑a‑lifetime shots, plus a few light snacks to keep your energy up.
For the clearest skies and best chance of seeing the blue flame, aim for the dry months between May and September. Conditions are usually crisp and dry — perfect for both trekking and photography.
We’d rate it as moderate. The ascent is roughly 3 km and usually takes 1.5–2 hours to reach the crater rim. A decent level of fitness helps you enjoy the climb, and pacing yourself makes the journey more rewarding.
There’s no strict age rule, but the trail can be tough for very young children or older participants. Anyone under 12 should be accompanied by an adult for safety.
